Stunning District 13 THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY - PART 1 Concept Art by Scott Lukowski

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 (2014)

Check out The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 concept art by Scott Lukowski!

The last sequel to The Hunger Games was a massive success and is the fifth highest-grossing film of 2014 and continued the epic scale of the novels by Suzanne Collins. Critic Robbie Collins of The Telegraph calls it "one of the most fascinating, vividly realised fantasy landscapes in recent cinema." Part of it's success were the use of real landscapes and sets in the film. Director Francis Lawrence told Coming Soon that he wanted to make the film as "honest and real as possible" to be "as immersive as possible for the movie and for the actors." This included building and using massive sets for the production. Designing all those sets takes some highly skilled artists and one of those artists, Scott Lukowski, shared some artwork on his site.

Lukowski is a professional concept illustrator who's worked on movies like The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), Transformers (2007) and Transcendence (2014). See designs for the archery range, District 13's hangers and hallways. You can also see the S.S.C., (short for Simulated Street Combat) nicknamed "The Block" which was an artificial Capital City Block used for training. It was either cut out of the film or was used for the blocks of District 13. Either way, they're gorgeous.

  3. I love the concept art! And, I really liked the way the movie brought light to the world-building of district 13. I hadn't really visualized the weaponry as much when I read the book, and the militarization of the whole facility is perfect. I am disappointed that they split Mockinjay into two movies, but to resolve the Peeta issue, I guess it makes sense. There's a lot of character arc to develop yet.
